Sam Jacobs will miss his second game in a row this weekend as he struggles to overcome an ankle injury.

Jacobs hurt his ankle in Adelaide's win over Essendon two weeks ago, and while he was tipped to return this Sunday against Fremantle, the ruckman will not take his place in the side, with the Crows opting to keep Reilly O'Brien in the ruck.

O'Brien impressed in his debut game in Jacobs' absence last weekend and will keep his spot in the Adelaide 22, with coach Dom Pyke saying Jacobs will not be risked.

"Sauce (Jacobs) won't play," Pyke said.

"That ankle was a little bit worse than we initially thought.

"Today was the first day he ran and to be honest with you it will be too tight to run that schedule, so he'll miss a game, which means Reilly O'Brien gets another look, which is great for him."

The Crows are one of four teams on 56 points heading into Round 21, but know a big one over the struggling Dockers would cement themselves in the top four.
